Erik Owings Alex Verga
Head Capoeira Instructor
As the son of a Capoeira Master, Alex Verga has been involved in the art of Capoeira since an early age. When Alex came to NYC in 2001 to pursue a modling career, he became a student of Capoeira Nago, under Contra Mestre Andre Gusmao. Today, a Graduado Cordd from Capoeira Nago NYC, and known by his nickname "Graduado Bahia" in the Capoeira World, Alex has over 10 years of experience, teaching Capoeira to all levels from beginners to advanced students brake-dancers, fashion models, house wives, and wall street brokers.

When not traveling around the world for modeling jobs, Alex has attended Capoeira workshops throughout the Untied States, Europe, and Brazil, including a once a year trip to Capoeria Nago's hometown, Gioania, Brazil, participating in rodas, tournaments, and trained with the group's great master Mestre Pequines.

As a Capoeira instructor at the Renzo Gracie Academy, Alex got involved in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, having a great year as a white belt in 2009, winning a Naga World grappling chammpionship, and becoming the IBJJF world  champion. Now as a blue belt, Alex continues competing and sharpening his martial arts skills.

As a successful fashion model, a lifelong athlete, an experienced competitor, and a certified trainer, Alex brings a high energy, great cardio Capoeira class, that is a complete body workout for all levels.
